US State Department approves proposed sale of MH-60Rs to Norway

The potential sale of six MH-60R multi-mission helicopters to Norway has received approval from the US State Department.

In a statement, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said that the proposed sale would ‘improve Norway’s capability to perform Coast Guard missions, along with the ability to perform secondary missions, including vertical replenishment and communications relay’.

The twin-engine, medium-range helicopter type is also often used to support search and rescue and law enforcement operations.

The deal, worth a projected $1 billion, would include equipment such as engines, sonars, and global positioning systems (GPS).

The principal contractor for the proposed sale is Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, located in Owego, New York.
