Voyageur becomes first Canadian customer for Airbus Flexrotor UAS
Voyageur Aviation will become the first Canadian operator of Airbus’s U030 Flexrotor, bringing the tactical VTOL uncrewed aircraft to defense, public safety, and commercial ISTAR missions
Airbus Helicopters has secured the first Canadian order for its U030 Flexrotor uncrewed aerial system (UAS), with Voyageur Aviation signing a purchase agreement during the UK’s Farnborough International Airshow.
The deal makes Voyageur the launch customer and first operator of the vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platform in Canada. It follows a memorandum of understanding being signed by Airbus and Voyageur at CANSEC in May 2026 to support Canada’s defense objectives.
Designed for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions, the U030 Flexrotor is a tactical VTOL UAS with a maximum takeoff weight of 25kg and endurance of more than 12 hours. The aircraft can autonomously launch and recover from land or sea within a 3.7x3.7m operating area, making it suitable for expeditionary operations with a limited logistical footprint.
Airbus said the platform had been deployed in harsh, high-threat, and GPS-denied environments and could also support civil and commercial missions, including Arctic ice monitoring, wildfire surveillance, infrastructure inspection, and law enforcement.
