The helicopter will be based at Griffin-Spalding County, and will be known as AirCare 2

Wellstar Health System, a healthcare provider in the US state of Georgia, has announced the introduction of a second helicopter to its AirCare air ambulance program.

The helicopter, known as AirCare 2, will be based at Griffin-Spalding County Airport in the Atlanta metropolitan area, close to the Wellstar Spalding Medical Center.

The rotorcraft will primarily serve Metro Atlanta and the western half of the state.

The aircraft is equipped to provide adult, pediatric, and neonatal lifesaving care, and is expected to significantly expand Wellstar’s ability to provide rapid emergency transport services.

“Expanding Wellstar AirCare to connect east, central, and west Georgia will offer a lifeline to patients who must be quickly transported for specialty care, whether it’s a newborn baby with life-threatening complications or the victim of a traumatic accident,” said Dr Phillip Coule, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Wellstar MCG Health.

Zachary Lancaster, Executive Director of Air Medical Transport at Wellstar MCG Health and a flight nurse and paramedic with the AirCare program, was recently named by the Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS) as one of the winners of its 40 Under 40: Rising Leaders in Medical Transport Awards.
