Winnipeg to acquire a new police helicopter
The city council of Winnipeg, in the Canadian province of Manitoba, has approved the purchase of a new CA$1.5 million police helicopter
The rotorcraft, an H125, will be acquired under a lease-to-own contract, with a monthly cost of around CA$75,000 over the next 15 years.
It will replace the police’s existing 14-year-old Airbus H120, which was launched in 2010.
The council voted 14-2 in support of the contract on 30 January.
The Airbus H125 has a cruise speed of 252km/h, with a range of 630km, and a maximum endurance of 4hrs 27mins.
It is a popular choice of helicopter for law enforcement and other emergency operations – the Texas Department of Public Safety announced the lease of an H125 in August 2024.
