The Royal Australian Air Force has signed a 30-month contract continuation with CHC Group, under which CHC will provide search and rescue services around Australia. Part of the deal is that six new AW139 helicopters will be replacing the current search and rescue (SAR) fleet of S76 aircraft. The AW139s will be configured for SAR missions with a four-axis auto hover capability, enabling the helicopters to hover over water at night. White phosphor night vision technology will also be fitted on the aircraft.
“We’re delighted and honoured to have signed this continuation with the Royal Australia Air Force,” said Vincent D’Rozario, CHC’s Regional Director for Asia Pacific. “CHC Helicopter has worked closely with the RAAF for almost 30 years, it is a pleasure to continue that relationship with the provision of a more capable, new generation aircraft.”
