Germany’s DRF Luftrettung recently revived an 18-month-old girl who had fallen into a pond in the Märkische Heide area of Germany.
The service’s Christoph 49 chopper and crew arrived on scene after the child’s parents rang the emergency services. The girl had been submerged for two minutes in a pond in the parent’s garden. Pilot Holger Wolff praised the emergency services control centre, who managed to explain over the phone to the little girl’s uncle how to resuscitate her.
However, when Wolff and the crew, including emergency physician Dr Olaf Schedler and rescue assistant Yvonne Baumann, arrived on scene, the child hardly had a pulse. Dr Schedler acted quickly, giving the girl circulatory drugs, a tube to assist artificial breathing and ensuring that she was kept warm.
The crew were then able to carry the child into the helicopter, transporting her to the hospital in nearby Cottbus. She was then successfully transferred over to hospital staff, said DRF Luftrettung.
