Yorkshire Air Ambulance set to return to TV

The crews of Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) are set to become TV stars once again, with the second series of UK show Helicopter ER returning to screens on 28 August.
In the show, YAA rescues a 53-year-old who suffers a broken neck, spine, sternum, several ribs and collarbone after coming off his bike on the steep Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales.
“I threw the bike into a speedway-style slide but both wheels hit a kerb at the same time which catapulted me off the bike like a pole vault and I did a Superman impression straight into a stone wall,” said Tom Phillips, the cyclist in question. “The next thing I was lying by the wall struggling to breathe. Everything after that is a bit like being in a dream world.”
YAA was able to stabilise Phillips and transport him to nearby James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in only 20 minutes. Since recovering from the accident, Phillips has raised £3,000 for the charity.
