New Zealand rescue helicopter service Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter was called on to respond to multiple incidents on 9 December.
According to the service, it was first called out to transfer a 31-year-old man to Christchurch Hospital from the Avalon Landing Pad. The man had been transported to the landing pad via the Wellington Free Ambulance after sustaining a suspected spinal injury after jumping into a swimming pool.
The helicopter was called out again after a 57-year-old male motorcyclist collided with a culvert, resulting in a fractured lower leg. Paramedics managed to stabilise the man before airlifting him off to Palmerston North Hospital for treatment.
The helicopter’s final call out of the day saw it dispatched to Ohakune in the evening, where an 11-year-old boy had sustained a back injury after falling from a trampoline. The service says he was treated at the scene before being transported to Whanganui Hospital for further treatment.
