How did you find your way into aviation?

Aviation has been a lifelong passion for me. I started flying gliders at a young age and later pursued my private pilot license (PPL) and commercial pilot license (CPL). The dream of becoming a pilot was always there, but what really drove me was the desire to solve realworld challenges faced by pilots and operators. I joined Air Navigation over a decade ago and have held various roles from customer support to database maintenance and feature design. That hands-on experience shaped how I approach innovation: not just creating technology, but making sure it truly works for pilots in the field.

What is Air Navigation Pro and what does it do to help pilots?

Air Navigation Pro is a certified electronic flight bag (EFB) solution designed to simplify even the most complex aspects of flight preparation and in-flight navigation. The app provides everything a pilot needs through an intuitive, easy-to-use interface – from route planning and aeronautical data such as weather, obstacles, and NOTAMs to terrain awareness and traffic alerts displayed directly on the map, offering an extra layer of safety. It delivers realtime, situationally relevant information without distracting the pilots from their primary task: flying the aircraft.

Backed by a team of motivated developers committed to meeting the aviation industry’s high standards, Air Navigation Pro evolves continuously through a user-driven and innovative approach. Over the past four years, we have released more than 80 new features – over 50 of them directly inspired by pilot feedback, including input from some of the sector’s most demanding operators. Our leading-edge vision has reshaped not only the tool’s capabilities but also contributed to market innovation, culminating in the recent release of an AI-powered auto visual flight rules (VFR) route planner; a market first that further enhances safety and efficiency for pilots worldwide.

How is this applicable to the special missions sector?

Besides being a powerful tool for pilots, with functionalities such as search and rescue (SAR) patterns and fire-related advisory data, Air Navigation Pro is part of a comprehensive solution that meets the demands of highintensity operational environments, making it essential for the special missions sector. Our experience working on business-to-business projects with major helicopter manufacturers has given us a unique insight into the challenges of mission planning systems. This led us, among other things, to develop Air Navigation Manager, a management service for aircraft operators that enables remote control of the app.

With this tool, fleet managers can enforce app settings, track flights in real-time, and deliver company data, such as waypoints, maps, routes, documents, and more. This provides operators full oversight and regulatory peace of mind, while also increasing safety and saving valuable time. By reducing crew workload and helping them get airborne faster, mission-critical responsiveness can be significantly improved.

Thanks to these capabilities, our solution is trusted in demanding fields such as helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS), SAR, VIP transport, and aerial utility work, like power line maintenance. It is used as a certified EFB by helicopter operators in several countries, including Norway, Japan, and France. Ultimately, our goal is to build tools that pilots and operators can rely on, so they can focus on their mission.
