AFormX unveils advanced aerial firefighting simulator

The new Air Tractor-specific system enhances realistic pilot training for high-risk wildfire missions while underscoring Slovenia’s growing role in advanced aerial firefighting technology

Slovenian aviation technology and precision mechanics company AFormX has developed a highly realistic aerial firefighting simulator for Air Tractor aircraft, aimed at strengthening pilot training and wildfire response capabilities across Southeast Europe, with particular emphasis on the Adriatic region.

The new simulator allows pilots to rehearse demanding low-altitude firefighting missions in safe, controlled conditions, significantly reducing operational risk. It is designed to replicate challenging environments, including smoke-heavy scenarios and complex terrain, which are common during real-world wildfire operations.

The system is already in active use at AFormX’s own flight school, where it is continuously refined and upgraded based on direct feedback from pilots.

Interest in the simulator is growing among countries operating Air Tractor aircraft, as operators seek to train a new generation of aerial firefighting pilots. Demand has increased in the wake of severe wildfire seasons, including the devastating fires that struck Slovenia’s Kras region in 2022.

Recoil Aerospace recently received approval of a 1,000gal capacity for its UH-60 Black Hawk Tsunami external wildfire suppression tank.
