Air Ambulances UK appoints Mike McGrath as new CEO

Air Ambulances UK (AAUK) has announced the appointment of Mike McGrath as its new Chief Executive Officer. He will take up the role in spring 2026, joining the national umbrella body at a key point for the air ambulance sector.

McGrath brings 25 years’ experience across UK and international charities, with a career spanning global development, microfinance, older people’s services, health, and education. He joins from the NSPCC, where he spent 14 years and most recently served as Special Adviser to the charity’s multi-industry Child Safety Online Taskforce. His background includes a strong focus on organizational transformation, income growth, innovation and impact.

He is currently a Trustee of Prostate Cancer UK and is an alumnus of Windsor Leadership, Newcastle University, the Open University, and the Chartered Institute of Fundraising.

Reflecting on his appointment, McGrath said: “The work of AAUK and all the 21 air ambulance charities across the UK is incredibly inspiring… I’m especially privileged to be given the opportunity to support and champion so many people who deliver lifesaving care every day… I’m very excited to play my part leading AAUK into its next chapter.”

McGrath’s appointment comes as AAUK continues to support its member charities in delivering advanced pre-hospital critical care across the UK, while championing the vital role of air ambulance services nationwide.
