Air Zermatt selected for air rescue operations in Valais, Switzerland

The decision was made by the Valais Cantonal Rescue Organization (KWRO)

The KWRO has decided that both Air Zermatt and Air-Glaciers will provide air rescue operations for the region. Air Zermatt has already provided this service for the last 55 years.

This decision means that Valais will continue to have the densest network of rescue helicopters in Switzerland, benefiting patients and accident victims in the area. It also means that the companies will be able to continue flying without having to downsize; they each operate five to six aircraft each at peak times.

Also, all rescue resources will continue to be dispatched by the KWRO from one place, saving time and money, which also benefits patients.

Philipp Perren, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Air Zermatt AG and Air-Glaciers SA, said: “For us, the KWRO’s decision is a clear sign that we’ve been on the right track in recent decades. It means that Valais can continue to count on the high quality of the rescue services provided by the two companies, as well as on the extensive experience and know-how of our pilots.”

The Geneva Canton’s operations are organised by Rega, another Swiss air rescue service.
