AirLIFE TEXAS opens new base in Lockhart
The new air medical base will be part of a wider “ecosystem” with sister bases in Uvalde, Snyder, and New Braunfels
AirLIFE TEXAS, a subsidiary of air ambulance company Air Methods, has opened a new base in the city of Lockhart, Texas.
The facility, known as AirLIFE TEXAS 1, is the sole air medical base permanently located in Caldwell County. It was officially opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 20 August.
The operator stated that the new base would be part of a wider “ecosystem” with its sister helicopter bases in Uvalde and Snyder, as well as a fixed-wing base in New Braunfels.
The base is home to a Bell 407, which will be equipped with a range of medical equipment to support its operations – including a Zoll AutoPulse NXT device, and facilities to carry whole blood.
“We are so excited to be here, and everyone has been so welcoming,” said Amber Buchanan, Account Executive at Air Methods. “We are available 24/7 to respond to time-critical emergencies. We have no memberships, so everyone who has insurance is covered, even when they are out of network. We also have an amazing patient advocacy program that helps all our patients, regardless of insurance.”
In the UK, the East Anglian Air Ambulance has launched a community consultation about plans for its own new base, due to open in 2027.
