Atrium Health adds two new helicopters to MedCenter Air Fleet
It’s now one of the first US health systems to be equipped with the Airbus H135
North Carolina-based MedCenter Air has welcomed two brand new, state-of-the-art helicopters to its fleet. The two Airbus H135s join a fleet of four Eurocopter EC135 P2+s, three Pilatus PC-24s and one Cessna Citation V.
The H135s are equipped with advanced navigation to allow for more precise flying, especially in adverse weather conditions and with an increased weight capacity, allowing the flight crews to fly with more equipment and for longer distances.
Atrium Health MedCenter Air opened its first rooftop helipad in 2003, and now maintains four helicopter bases – three in North Carolina (Concord, Hickory and Wadesboro) and one in Rock Hill, South Carolina. One of the H135s will be based at Concord and the other at Hickory.
Serving both states with emergency transport services, the MedCenter Air team comprises nearly 200 staff across its flight and medical crews.
