AutoFlight secures $21.5 million deal for 12 large-scale electric aircraft

AutoFlight has secured a ¥157 million (US$21.5 million) order for 12 large electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft from Hanyang Investment Development Group.

The agreement, announced on 11 February, includes a partnership with the Hanyang District Government of Wuhan City to conduct low-altitude crewed and uncrewed flight operations, advancing the adoption of large-scale eVTOL technology in the region.

Situated at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han Rivers, Hanyang District is a central urban hub in Wuhan. The District is pioneering the development of a “low-altitude, full-scene demonstration center” to showcase various eVTOL applications. 

Initial operations will focus on logistics, emergency response, and fire rescue services. 

The project will begin with crewed flight demonstrations along the approved aerial tour route on the Yangtze River’s north bank, with plans to expand “low-altitude and cultural tourism” services throughout Hanyang District.

Using Hanyang District as a hub, the eVTOL network will gradually expand to connect eight surrounding districts, creating a 30-minute urban air mobility circle. 

Last year EVTOL manufacturer EHang was awarded a production certificate for its autonomous EH216-S aircraft.
