Axon buys Dedrone to support drone first responder systems
Axon Enterprise has announced the completion of its purchase of Dedrone, a firm that specializes in airspace awareness and security technology
The takeover will see Dedrone’s airspace solution DedroneBeyond integrated into Axon’s public safety digital drone platform, Axon DFR.
The aim is to enhance the platform’s effectiveness in supporting drone as first responder (DFR) programs – in fields such as law enforcement and emergency response – as well as to protect against unauthorized drone threats.
DedroneBeyond will allow Axon DFR to support drone flights beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) – something that is of growing interest to both emergency responders and civil aviation authorities around the world.
Axon stated that the enhanced BVLOS capabilities will allow “drones to fly farther, faster, and operate in more challenging human conditions and areas previously difficult to access, reducing response times and improving situational awareness”.
The company also stated that Dedrone’s artificial intelligence (AI)-driven systems enable public safety and defense teams to “detect, track, and, when necessary, neutralize rogue drones in real time”.
Drone manufacturer BRINC launched its own DFR solution earlier this year.
