Boeing secures order for four MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters
The US Air Force is expanding its helicopter fleet following a major production milestone, with 27 aircraft delivered to date
Boeing has secured an order for four additional MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters for the US Air Force (USAF), marking the program’s transition to full-rate production.
The award follows the USAF’s declaration of initial operational capability earlier in 2026, allowing the service to advance deployment of the helicopters for security and support operations at US strategic missile installations.
The latest contract brings the total number of MH-139A helicopters on order to 42, of which 27 have been delivered.
Based on the Leonardo AW139 platform, the MH-139A is being introduced to support the USAF’s helicopter modernization program, replacing older aircraft used for security operations and personnel transport.
Kathleen Jolivette, Vice President and General Manager of Vertical Lift Programs at Boeing Defense, Space & Security, said: “This milestone validates key readiness levels for Grey Wolf and supports the service’s fielding plans to secure vital national assets across the country’s strategic missile fields.
“Adding these aircraft to the production queue brings additional momentum to ongoing fielding and modernization efforts.”
The first full-rate production order represents a further step toward expanding the Grey Wolf fleet as the USAF continues its transition to the new helicopter platform.
