Bristow confirms fatal S-92 North Sea crash

Bristow Group has confirmed that one of its Sikorsky S-92 search and rescue (SAR) helicopters was involved in an accident on 28 February. With six crewmembers aboard, the event took place during a training exercise approximately 15NM west of Bergen, Norway.

In a statement the operator said: “It is with deep sadness that we can report one fatality has been confirmed. The other five crewmembers have varying levels of injuries.”

Cooperating with authorities in response to the incident, Bristow has deployed its incident response team and is aiding family members of those onboard. “Our highest priority is to take care of our crew and their family members and provide them with any assistance needed,” it said.

According to Equinor, the cause of the accident is currently unknown. The company has halted all regular flights on the Norwegian continental shelf “out of consideration for those affected and to gain an overview of the situation”.
