The Bulgarian government has announced that it will launch the first flights of its new national emergency air ambulance service by the end of this month
The announcement was made by the country’s Minister of Health, Dr Galya Kondeva, on a visit to the town of Silistra on 17 May.
She reported that the first training flight with medical teams and equipment onboard was carried out the same day.
It follows the receipt of the service’s first helicopter – an AW109 Trekker – in February. The second and third rotorcraft are due to be delivered in June and December of this year, respectively.
The program also received operational approval from the country’s General Directorate of Civil Aviation Administration on 18 March.
