DRF Maintenance opens new helicopter hangar in Straubing

DRF Maintenance has officially opened a new helicopter hangar in Straubing, Bavaria, Germany, expanding its maintenance and repair capabilities for both public and private operators. The facility completed its first major contract shortly after opening, performing extensive maintenance on an official helicopter.

The Straubing site, part of DRF Luftrettung, is a certified European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 145 Maintenance Organisation and focuses on base maintenance for Airbus EC155 and H145 helicopters. Plans are underway to extend services to the H135 model. The facility features maintenance docks, modern workstations for complex repairs, and workshops for sheet metal and avionics work, allowing operators to minimize downtime and carry out modifications efficiently.

“The opening in Straubing is an important step – both for us and for our customers,” said Hendrik Schubien, Managing Director of DRF Maintenance. “It brings our service quality closer to them and at the same time enables more efficient processes.”

The Straubing hangar adds to DRF Maintenance’s existing network, which includes facilities in Wilhelmshaven, Lower Saxony, and Rheinmünster, near Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport in Baden-Württemberg. The Rheinmünster location is one of Europe’s largest and most modern helicopter maintenance facilities. In addition to external clients, the new Straubing site can service DRF Luftrettung helicopters from nearby helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) bases and ARA Flugrettung helicopters from Austria.

The new facility positions DRF Maintenance to handle larger maintenance projects in southern Germany and neighboring countries while offering tailored services that meet evolving operational requirements.

DRF Luftrettung recently announced the completion of its fleet renewal program, with all bases now flying Airbus H135s and H145 D3 helicopters.
