Entrol to deliver third S-64 FTD worldwide for Helicopter Express

Entrol has secured a major contract to build a Sikorsky S-64E Skycrane flight training device (FTD) for US-based Helicopter Express, marking only the third S-64 FTD in existence and the company’s first for the heavy-lift operator. The device, due for completion in October 2026 and delivery in February 2027, will support advanced training for firefighting, construction, and disaster-relief missions.

Designed around the unique operational profile of the S-64, the new FTD will feature a suite of mission-training capabilities. These include firefighting scenarios with a water cannon, sea-snorkel operations, and precision external-load training using a rear-facing control station. The cockpit will replicate the aircraft’s distinctive bubble windows to enhance situational awareness during vertical reference work. Night vision imaging system (NVIS) compatibility and a fully enclosed three-screen instructor operating station will further support high-intensity, scenario-based training.

The device integrates Entrol’s latest technology, including an ENWALL LED visual system with an expanded field of view and a visual database powered by Entrol Mission (ENVISION) using Unreal Engine. A high-fidelity control loading system, vibration platform, and optional mixed reality goggles will enable crews to rehearse complex tasks with tactile and visual realism. A dedicated debriefing station will also allow detailed post-flight analysis.

The simulator will be certified to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FTD Level 7, the highest level available without motion, ensuring training time is fully creditable.
