Construction has begun on an expansion to Latitude Air Ambulance’s base at Hamilton International Airport in Ontario, Canada

Work on Latitude Air Ambulance’s new base expansion project has begun, following a groundbreaking ceremony on 15 December.

The expansion – which includes a new aircraft hangar suitable for the housing and maintenance of Latitude’s entire fleet – is expected to be completed by late 2024.

The 4,088m2 facility will also feature an office complex for administration and training purposes, as well as storage space for medical equipment.

Latitude anticipates that employee levels at the site will increase by 50 per cent within two years of completion. The air medical provider currently employs over 100 personnel at its Hamilton base, including pilots, medical personnel, maintenance engineers, and administrative staff.

“We are investing in our operations at Hamilton International as we see significant growth potential in the medical support field for Latitude Air Ambulance and the entire region,” said Peter Byl, President and CEO of Latitude Air Ambulance.

Byl added: “Hamilton offers international airport capabilities, access to a large labor market, and the potential for healthcare partnerships with local academia and healthcare facilities, making it the ideal market for us to expand our footprint and continue to raise the bar in this industry.”

Florida-based air ambulance firm Jet ICU also began construction of its own new headquarters at Tampa International Airport this month.
