New helicopter flies as Christoph 53
DRF Luftrettung has replaced the previous rotorcraft model
German air rescue service DRF Luftrettung has announced the modernization of its fleet, with a new helicopter arriving at its Mannheim station.
A new Airbus type H145 with a five-blade rotor now flies as Christoph 53.
Immediately after the new helicopter arrived, it was deployed on a double mission.
For helicopter operator Markus Becker, who was on duty as a pilot that day, the advantages of the aircraft are clear: “Thanks to the fifth rotor blade, the H145 is even quieter in the air, which means significantly less vibration for the interior – a brilliant difference!”
Patients and crew will also benefit from the significantly higher payload of the new model. For example, more fuel can be carried, which makes it possible to travel longer distances during operations and emergencies.
Christoph 53 is operational from sunrise – 7:00 hrs at the earliest – to sunset and is manned by a pilot, an emergency doctor and an emergency paramedic.
