New law enforcement drone fleet planned for Pattaya, Thailand

The city of Pattaya in Thailand has announced plans to utilize a fleet of drones to support law enforcement efforts.

The drones will employ artificial intelligence (AI) powered facial recognition solutions, and will be used to identify those with outstanding arrest warrants or expired visas.

Linked to a centralized AI database, the drones will be able to scan faces in crowds and pick out criminals and visa overstayers. They will also be used to provide security at large-scale events and tourist hotspots.

The government of Zimbabwe recently reported its own success in using drones to reduce smuggling on its border with Mozambique.
