New Seahawks for Norway and Spain
The US government has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract to supply six MH-60R Seahawk helicopters to Norway
The Seahawks will be used by Norway to perform for a range of maritime missions, including search and rescue (SAR) and coastal and offshore patrol. The MH-60R is capable of speeds of 180kts (333km/h) and has a range of 245NM (454km).
The sale of the six MH-60Rs to Norway was approved by the US State Department in April of this year, and delivery of the full fleet is due to be completed by 2027.
“This platform has a long and proven track record of reliability and flexibility in operational environments similar to those faced by the Norwegian Air Force and Coast Guard,” said Brigadier General Jarle Nergård, Head of the Air Systems Division of the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency.
The US government also awarded a contract to Lockheed Martin for eight MH-60Rs for delivery to the Spanish Navy on 12 October. Approval for purchase of those helicopters was granted by the US government last year.
