Philippine Air Force expands rapid response capability with addition of Bell 412EPX helicopters
The Air Force has added two Bell 412EPX helicopters, boosting rapid deployment, disaster response, medevac, and airlift capability across the archipelago
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has formally inducted two new Bell 412EPX utility helicopters into service, bolstering its rotary-wing fleet and expanding multi-mission capability across troop transport, humanitarian assistance, and air medical evacuation operations.
The aircraft were officially commissioned during ceremonies at Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, following their arrival in the Philippines on 27 February as part of the service’s wider utility helicopter acquisition program.
According to the PAF, the procurement forms part of an eight-aircraft order placed with Bell Textron, with the remaining six helicopters expected to be delivered in 2027.
The latest additions bring the service’s Bell 412 fleet to 16 airframes.
The Bell 412EPX platform will be operated by the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing and is expected to support a broad range of missions, including rapid troop insertion, internal security operations, and logistics support to geographically isolated and disaster-affected areas.
A key operational focus for the platform is humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR), with the Philippines frequently exposed to typhoons, flooding, and seismic activity.
The aircraft are also expected to play a role in medical evacuation (medevac) missions, supporting the movement of patients from remote or inaccessible locations to higher-level care facilities.
The twin-engine configuration and multi-mission flexibility of the 412EPX are widely used across military and government aviation fleets globally, particularly in environments requiring rapid role-switching between transport, rescue, and utility.
PAF officials said the arrival of the aircraft represented a continued step in the service’s modernization program, aimed at improving responsiveness and operational reach across the country’s dispersed island geography.
Military leadership also highlighted the platform’s role in improving overall mission readiness, with the aircraft expected to support both routine operations and surge deployment during large-scale emergencies.
Last year, Lockheed Martin announced the delivery of five more Black Hawk helicopters to the PAF, as part of its efforts to modernize its defense capabilities.
