Recoil secures EASA approval for Super Puma Tsunami tank
The latest EASA approval paves the way for wider use of Recoil’s high-capacity Tsunami tank system in European aerial firefighting operations
Recoil Aerospace has received validation from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its Tsunami External Tank on the Airbus Super Puma helicopter series, expanding global certification for the aerial firefighting system.
The EASA supplemental type certificate (STC) validates Recoil’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) STC SR02584AK for the Super Puma family, including the SA330, AS332, EC225, and related variants. This latest approval adds to Recoil’s growing list of international certifications across North America, South America, Asia, and Africa, with authorizations already secured in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Morocco, and South Korea.
The Tsunami External Tank system has a 4,000L capacity and is constructed from aerospace-grade carbon fiber. Designed for efficiency and ease of use, it mounts directly to the helicopter fuselage without modifying the landing gear. The tank’s rapid installation, 130kt VNE, and fixed high-volume water delivery aim to maximize firefighting effectiveness in both urban and remote wildfire environments.

Additional features include an integrated 132L foam tank, night vision goggles (NVG) or night vision imaging systems (NVIS) compatible lighting, and minimal pilot training requirements. The system can be installed or removed within minutes and comes with dedicated crew orientation training and global customer support.
Manufactured in partnership with Aerospace Composites Solutions (ACS) at an AS9100-certified facility in Kentucky, the Tsunami tank is available immediately for Super Puma and Black Hawk platforms.
Recoil Aerospace recently announced Tennessee-based XP Services as the new distributor of its advanced tank systems for UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.
