Six more Chinooks ordered by US Army
Boeing has secured a $271 million contract to supply six MH-47G Block II Chinooks to the US military
The aircraft will be delivered to the US Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) as part of the army’s broader modernization plans.
The new order brings the total number of MH-47Gs currently under contract with USASOAC to 42 aircraft.
“The Chinook has been a key player in the special operations domain for many years,” said Heather McBryan, Vice President and Program Manager for Cargo Programs at Boeing. “With the modernized MH-47G, USASOAC soldiers are well suited to meet today’s challenging environment.”
Chinooks are used primarily for the transportation of personnel and supplies, as well as medical evacuation (medevac). Secondary uses include search and rescue (SAR) and emergency response.
The Egyptian Air Force also placed an order for 12 CH-47F Chinooks from Boeing at the start of this year.
