SkyAlyne and Airbus complete first Canadian test flights of RCAF CT-153 Juno

SkyAlyne and Airbus Helicopters Canada have marked a major milestone in the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program, with the first CT-153 Juno completing its initial Canadian test flights and unveiling its new RCAF livery in Fort Erie, Ontario.

The Airbus H135-based helicopter arrived in Canada following initial assembly and acceptance, before undergoing Canadian-specific modification work and application of the program’s ‘Reflect Forward’ paint scheme.

According to SkyAlyne, the first flights and installation of Canadian supplemental type certificates (STCs) are “important steps in validating aircraft performance, systems integration, and overall airworthiness”. The company added that the testing phase “ensures the platform meets the rigorous standards required to support the training of future RCAF pilots”.

The new livery combines the RCAF’s traditional training yellow with contemporary blue tones and red-and-white national markings, reflecting both heritage and modernization. Final RCAF markings are expected to be applied ahead of delivery.

The CT-153 Juno will serve as the advanced rotary-wing training platform for the FAcT program and will be operated by 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School at 15 Wing Southport.

SkyAlyne is acquiring 19 CT-153 Juno helicopters for the RCAF, with deliveries scheduled to begin in mid-2026.

The government of Ontario recently approved CA$57 million of funding for new police helicopters.
