US Army orders three more Block II Chinooks

The order, which is part of the US Army’s ongoing modernization efforts, follows six Block II Chinooks purchased in December 2023.

The first Chinook of this batch of six was delivered to the army in June of this year, with a second following in September.

All nine aircraft were ordered as part of a framework contract between the Army and Boeing for up to 465 aircraft of the same type.

The CH-47F Block II is intended by the Army to fly for at least another 40 years.

Chinooks are used primarily for the transportation of personnel and supplies, as well as medical evacuation (medevac). Secondary uses include search and rescue (SAR) and emergency response.

“It is critical soldiers get to their destinations and have the equipment they need to accomplish the mission,” said Heather McBryan, Vice President and Program Manager, Boeing Cargo Programs. “The CH-47F Block II’s increased payload capacity and expanded range enables the US Army to meet evolving heavy-lift mission requirements around the world.”
