Vita Inclinata unveils new SAR extraction device

Vita Inclinata has unveiled its new PELICAN Rapid Extraction Device (RED), developed by subsidiary Air Rescue Systems (ARS).

The device, showcased at HAI HELI-EXPO 2024 in Anaheim, California, is designed to “eliminate the double lift process” and reduce “the risk of losing victims during extraction” present in more traditional “collar or strop devices used in water rescues”.

Vita explained that the PELICAN also “minimizes the physical and psychological impact on rescuers and survivors”, and has “no need for active victim participation” during SAR hoist rescues.

Additional features of the PELICAN include:

• An advanced keylock system: provides a haptic feel for secure closure, allowing quick and easy deployment even with cold or wet hands
• Compatibility with both attended or unattended victims, offering versatility in rescue operations
• Rapid water shedding to minimize excess weight during water-borne operations.

An overhauled SAR training curriculum

Vita and ARS also announced the launch of a new, “comprehensive, standardized curriculum” for its SAR training services. The curriculum will “cover the entire spectrum of helicopter SAR operations”, from “foundational training to establishing hoist and short-haul rescue, to advanced human external cargo and special ops techniques”.

ARS was acquired by Vita Inclinata Technologies in July of last year.
