Fourth base for Iowa’s AirCare HEMS service
The University of Iowa Health Care’s AirCare helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) will open a new base in Davenport, Iowa
The facility, known as the Quad Cities base, will be fully operational this autumn, and will serve the eastern part of the US state of Iowa.
It is the fourth AirCare base, alongside others in located in Iowa City, Waterloo, and Dubuque.
The base is expected to improve response times for the service, which is run in partnership with Air Methods. It will also extend coverage to several counties previously not served by AirCare.
“The opening of a fourth AirCare base is a milestone in our mission to extend lifesaving care to high-risk patients facing time-sensitive and complex medical needs,” said Andrew Nugent, Chair and Departmental Executive Officer for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Iowa Health Care.
The UK’s Magpas Air Ambulance recently acquired a new AW109 to support its operations.
