September 2022 Military Special Edition

In our September Special Military edition of AirMed&Rescue we look at future challenges faced both on and off the battlefield.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force share the reality of search and rescue and medevac operations in the South China Sea, including the Port of Singapore, one of the busiest ports in the world.

Mark Burnand from Leonardo UK shares his thoughts on the AW149 and its combat search and rescue capability, and how they are pitching this aircraft as the new medium helicopter replacement for the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD) requirement, predominantly as the Puma support helicopter.

Modernization is at the forefront when it comes to aiding the fight for the military but is also necessary when providing care to injured servicemen and women. Doug Englen, Military Sales and strategy manager at Bell talks to AirMed&Rescue about how the Army is working to face future challenges. We also share a Sikorsky program round up, covering the HH-67W Jolly Green II and DEFIANT X endeavors.

“One of the best ways to save lives during combat operations is to provide blood products to forward deployed medics and corpsmen as soon as possible.” Can drones transform battlefield medicine? We take a look. Furthermore, military transfers between medical facilities are a key part of caring for troops who are injured. US Air Force Air Mobility Command Unit discuss how they provide this time critical service using its fleet of aircraft.

Rob Munday of SR3 Rescue Concepts looks at how the innovation from Petzl designed to aid in helicopter mountain rescue missions performs in real life, Dr Monica Fortea shares how her experiences lead to creating a company providing safe repatriation, and Mark Chapman of Medway Air Ambulance discusses how the air medical community can mee the increasing need for neonatal transfers.

Finally, we wish a very Happy Birthday to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance as they celebrate 15 years of saving lives.
